I was sorely disappointed at the first posthumous Lord Peter Wimsey book, Thrones Dominations, started by Dorothy Sayers but finished by Jill Paton Walsh back in 1998. On leaving Miss Climpson, Lord Peter Wimsey again found himself a prey to Weltschmerz and self-pity. But it now took the form of a gentle, pervading melancholy.

Today’s serendipity, reading an article about German terms, posting about it here, and then reading the very same German term on page 164 of Strong Poison.

It’s been a rough week for 69 year old British celebrities with cancer. I woke up Monday morning to find out that we’d lost David Bowie, and woke up Thursday morning to the news that Alan Rickman had decided to join him for a drink in Heaven. Well bugger all. It was a grey and rainy day today. And I unexpectedly did not have to work (I finished up my project way earlier than expected, and can’t start on the next one until the SME comes back to the office next week). So I spent the day reading.

I finished up four count them, four, half finished books on my bedside table.
